The Kansas City Roos men’s soccer team beat the St. Thomas Tommies 3-1 on Oct. 18, during their own senior night.
They are now on a three-game winning streak, and are currently sitting at the top spot in the Summit League rankings.
What made the night memorable was that three seniors scored on senior night. Head coach Ryan Pore was extremely happy about that.
“It was a special night for the guys,” said Pore. “To have three seniors score, it just shows how much work they put in, and I couldn’t be happier for them.”
The game was tight in the beginning of the first half with both teams displaying good defense.
With about two minutes left in the first half, graduate forward Wade Muttitt put the ball through the net to give Kansas City their first points.
“Wes placed a great ball over the top to me,” said Muttitt. “It was bouncing a little bit, but I was able to put it through the goalie’s legs for the goal.”
Kansas City rode that momentum into the second half, and never let up. Around the 22 minute mark, senior midfielder Raphael Kistmann scored his first goal of the year to put them up 2-0. When asked about his thoughts after the game, Kistmann was extremely happy about finally seeing one go through.
“I was waiting a lot for this goal,” said Kistmann. “I am really grateful, and to do it tonight just made it even better.”
St. Thomas would get on the scoreboard late in the game to make the score 2-1.
However, it was overshadowed by senior midfielder Timothy Ospina who put the game away with a goal with about 11 seconds left. He credited his teammates after the game.
“My teammates gave me the confidence to take the shot,” said Ospina. “They are always encouraging me to take the shot, so I felt like I had to.”
