The Kansas City men’s basketball team lost its fifth consecutive game Saturday night against the Omaha Mavericks. They now have a record of 4-17 on the season, and 1-6 in the conference.
After a competitive first half, the players couldn’t find their rhythm in the second half due to Omaha’s strong defense. Kansas City shot just 28% from the field in the second half.
“They just played better basketball than us,” said head coach Marvin Menzies. “They played harder, they won the 50/50 balls, and they outrebounded us.”
Omaha junior Paul Djobet made it really tough for Kansas City to stay in the game. Djobet scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
“He’s a first-team all-conference player,” said Menzies.
Senior guard Kasheem Grady II led the Roos in scoring, while coming off the bench, for a third consecutive game with 15 points. He has really been finding his groove.
“We needed bench points,” said Menzies. “We had 28 points off the bench tonight, and Kash was a big part in that.”
Redshirt Junior guard Chris Dockery was the second leading scorer for Kansas City. Dockery scored 10 points and had seven rebounds on the night.
Unfortunately, a couple of the Roos’ top players struggled against the Mavericks, which played a big part in why Kansas City dropped its sixth game in the conference.
Junior guard Karmello Branch, who is the leading scorer for Kansas City, really struggled against the Mavericks. He scored just three points and went 1-6 from the field.
Junior guard CJ Evans also did not have the best night. Evans only scored six points and shot just 3-8 from the field.
The Roos’ next game is at home tomorrow, January 28th at 7 p.m. against the Denver Pioneers.
