Vice Chancellor and Athletic Director Dr. Brendon Martin announced Jan. 12 that head coach Marvin Menzies will leave the Kansas City Roos following this season.
The Roos are 4-14 this season, with one win coming against a Division I opponent, the Omaha Mavericks..
“Credit to coach Menzies,” said Dr. Martin. “He’s recruited well, we have a ton of talent. I truly believe we haven’t put the right combinations on the floor for our talent to be truly maximized.”
“Our roster is not broken, we still have a ton of basketball to be played in the Summit League Conference. I just felt the need based on a comprehensive evaluation along with my Chancellor that we felt that this was the time to make this announcement.”
Menzies was announced as the eighth head coach in Kansas City Men’s Basketball history in April 2022.
During his tenure in Kansas City, Menzies earned Summit League Coach of the Year honors for the 2023-24 season and has guided four players to All-Summit League recognition. With 286 career victories heading into the 2025-26 season, he currently stands 84th nationally among active Division I head coaches.
“Coach Menzies has left an indelible mark on our men’s basketball program,” said Dr. Martin. “We wish him all the best moving forward as he transitions into his personal and professional endeavors moving on.”
Dr. Martin said Kansas City has started an immediate national search for a new head coach.
