The season for the Kansas City Roos men’s soccer team came to an end against the #12 Stanford Cardinal in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The final score was 1-0.
Neither team scored in the first half, but Stanford’s stifling defense kept Kansas City at a standstill, as the Roos only attempted two shots. The Stanford Cardinal controlled 64% of the possession in the first half.
In the second half, Stanford would continue to put its defense on display. Still, at the 63rd minute mark, Stanford Cardinal junior defender Alfonso Tenconi-Gradillas would put the ball through the net to get on the board.
Kansas City would attempt four more shots, but all were unsuccessful. The best shot came from junior forward Jeremy Francou at the 89th minute mark, but the ball would go over the bar.
The Roos were stunned by the defense from the Cardinals.
Even though Kansas City lost, the team finished the season with 12 wins, which is the second-most in program history, and claimed the number one spot in the Summit League Standings. They also made the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons.
Look for Kansas City to be on top once again for next season.
