Kansas City’s top drag performers showed up and showed out at the “Witching Hour” drag show last Tuesday, Oct. 21, hosted by Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA), Lana Luxx and Rey Markable.
Among the performers were Hamburger Mary’s Drag Survivor X winner Lambyyy Boots, Chappell Roan concert opener Minti Varieties, 2026 Miss Continental Court runner-up Lana Luxx, Mr. Kansas City Pride 2025 Southern Hxll and semifinalist of Drag Survivor KC Sarah Tonin.

Many attendees recognized the line-up of accomplished performers, which drew them to the event.
“I am really a big fan of Lana Luxx and today is my birthday…so I really didn’t want to miss this,” said UMKC freshman Giuliany Aleman.
Hosts Luxx and Markable emphasized that drag continues to thrive despite current challenges and encouraged allies to “continue the good fight.”
“By following drag entertainers online, you can share their stories and events. Some drag artists will share protests they are going to, and you can join them,” said Markable. “Isabella Valenciaga is one of my good drag sisters and has been on the front line for a lot of people with the whole ICE thing, and if you see that, share that on your story, and it will get to a bigger audience that may not see what we do.”
The artists and audience agreed that, beyond social media support, visibility and inclusion on university campuses are equally vital.
“It’s important for colleges in general to have drag because some people come to college to finally be themselves …you may see someone up there (performing), who looks just like you. Whether that’s height, skin color, pronouns, you can really relate to that person, and that person can uplift you, and I think that’s really important to find someone that can be your person to help you feel safe,” said Markable.
“Just be happy, be funny, be gay. I just want to make sure everybody is feeling their freak fantasy and has the best time, leaving with an inspired take to blossom their artistic abilities,” said Performer Lambyy Boots in regards to what the crowd’s lasting impression would be after the show.
Sam Justice, SAGA President, teased another possible drag show in the Spring, due to popular demand.
