With the 2025-26 NFL season off to a good start, the Kansas City Chiefs are once again among the top teams to potentially make it to the Super Bowl.
With seven AFC Championship appearances and three Super Bowl titles between 2018 and 2025, the Chiefs are in talks on whether or not they are the newest dynasty in the NFL.
“I think we are most definitely a dynasty,” said UMKC student Mark Johnson, a senior civil engineering major. “Super Bowls are extremely hard to win. The fact that we have been able to do that consecutively, with teams preparing to beat us every year, is what puts us on a high level.”
A lot of comparisons have been drawn to the 2000s New England Patriots dynasty. Some believe the Chiefs are on their level, while others believe they still have work to do.
“I feel like we were on our way to match their success, but then we hit some bumps in the road,” said Joel Garcia, a sophomore entrepreneurship major. “I think we still have to win some more to get on their level.”
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is still the face of the team. With Mahomes recently turning 30 years old, he already has three Super Bowl titles, six Pro-Bowl selections and two MVP awards.
“He is the best quarterback in the league,” Johnson said. “Not only is he extremely smart, but he is an amazing playmaker.”
With the Chiefs’ success over the past seven years, many believe that it is enhancing sports in Kansas City.
“The Chiefs are putting Kansas City on the map,” Johnson said. “The amount of media attention that is being brought to Kansas City is shining a light on how good sports is here.”
It’s safe to say that UMKC students are high on the Kansas City Chiefs.
