The Kansas City men’s basketball team added a talented and promising transfer from Lamar University this April, guard Anderson Kopp.

Kopp is a 6-foot-6-inch shooting guard that will bring good size and scoring ability to the position for the Roos roster this upcoming season.

“We’re excited to add Anderson to our program,” coach Billy Donlon told UMKC Athletics. “He is a proven scorer and his size on the perimeter will be important in the Summit League.”

In the 2019-20 season, Kopp was one of the top freshman scorers in the Southland Conference, averaging 10.6 points per game while adding 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists as well. His season-high in scoring came against Incarnate Word where he dropped 20 points in a win, adding to his double-digit scoring total of 15 games for the season.

This past season, Kopp earned Academic All-Southland Honors and started in 17 games for Lamar. He was third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.4 points per game and scored a career high of 24 against Lipscomb on Nov. 28.

Kopp was a three-star recruit coming out of high school in the Houston area. He was ranked within the top 235 players nationally and top 45 shooting guards in the nation as well. In his senior season, he averaged 24 points per game and led St. Thomas to their 25-9 record and a ticket to the 6A state tournament.

The Roos finished this last season below .500 at 11-13, and the team will be losing two senior guards to graduation. Kupp should be able to come right in and contribute.
