More and more students are discovering Kansas City’s hidden gems when it comes to thrifting on a budget.
College students are always looking for fashion inspiration on a budget, and places like the Goodwill bins are full of essentials at affordable prices.
“The Goodwill outlet on Bannister Road always has some really good pieces, but you have to go early,” said UMKC senior Cerilo Yousif. “I found multiple vintage Carhartt jackets, even distressed Harley-Davidson biker jackets. The early bird gets the worm.”
Fashion is one way college students express creativity and show their individuality. From streetwear to vintage to business casual, each style helps students represent themselves through what they wear.
“Wearhouse Vintage and Gilded Chaos are some very underrated stores that I consider thrift,” said freshman Riley Brown.
“They sell good vintage clothes for thrift-store prices… cute crop tops, skirts, and leather jackets, and they’re down the street from our university,” said Brown. “My favorite piece personally was this Hello Kitty bedazzled to.”
Each thrifted piece can speak volumes about a student’s personality, character, and confidence.
More importantly, outlets and thrift stores are affordable as students continue to pay thousands of dollars in tuition, making it easier to feel confident in your style without paying for the newest trends.
