A Kansas City Streetcar was hit by a box truck Saturday, Nov. 22 near UMKC’s campus, according to the KC Streetcar Authority.
The Kansas City Police Department said that they were called by a Ride KC supervisor at about 11:20 a.m. regarding an injury crash involving an SUV, a truck and the Ride KC Streetcar.
Streetcar Authority spokesperson Donna Mandelbaum said the wreck happened when the truck was traveling northbound on Brookside Boulevard and illegally swerved around another vehicle.
The truck then made an illegal right turn at a red light on MLK Jr. Boulevard, leading it to hit the streetcar, police said.
Officers responded with EMS for minor injuries on the part of the streetcar driver. A citation was issued to one of the drivers.
The wreck is still under investigation by KCPD.
