Canvas has been completely down for hours and students are frustrated with how long it is taking to fix this issue.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a massive outage this morning that caused worldwide disruptions, affecting students at a crucial point in the semester, as some still have midterms to complete.
“I’m frustrated because I can’t check my work for the week, and I usually update my calendar for what all of my assisnments are and the day they are due,” said senior criminal jusice and political science major Sage Pundmann. “I don’t have any assignments due today, but I’m worried about what the penalties would be for those who do and how that would work.”
AWS is making hourly updates and Instructure is as well.
“I feel worried since I know both Canvas and UMKC can’t do anything about it, its not an unprecedented event for Amazon’s web-servers, but with all the experimenting with AI that tech giants like Amazon are doing, I think there could be a much bigger issue yet to be revealed,” said sophomore computer science major Jake Nelson. “Essentially, I have no idea when it will be back online and there is absolutely no way to know.”
