The Kansas City Roos men’s basketball team showed up and showed out against the Denver Pioneers on senior night. They won 64-56.
In a game where both teams were slow on the offensive end, Kansas City really made a difference on the boards and the defensive end. They outrebounded Denver 34-29, and had 11 steals, which really pleased head coach Marvin Menzies.
“We really grew on defense this year,” said Menzies. “You’re going to have to score in this conference, but defense has to be emphasized, and we showed that tonight.”
Senior guard Jamar Brown had an amazing performance in his final home game as a Roo. Brown finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Coach Menzies expressed just how much Brown will be missed after the game.
“I was very happy with the way Jamar ended his career at home,” said Menzies. “We’re really going to miss him as a basketball player, but even more as a person.”
Jamar Brown also notched some accomplishments in the game. He now has the 10th most double-digit scoring games, 4th most double-digit rebounding games, and 4th most double-doubles in school history.
Senior forward Melvyn Ebonkoli had a solid game as well. Ebonkoli finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds.
Overall, Menzies was happy about the performance from everyone, especially from the seniors.
“I wouldn’t rather be with any group of guys,” said Menzies. “These are phenomenal human beings, and I am going to miss those guys immensely.”
No players were available for comment after the game.
