Around 1 million people were estimated to be in attendance at the parade.

Update:

As of 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the number of those injured at the Union Station shooting after the Chiefs Super Bowl parade increased to 30 people.

Lisa Lopez-Galvan, is confirmed dead and the remining victims’ ages range from 8 years old to 47 years old, with at least half being under the age of 16.

The shooting is confirmed to have stemmed from a personal dispute between paradegoers.

Mayor Quinton Lucas spoke with KCTV5 and said 3 people are currently in custody, but no charges have been made yet.

“We need to do something about the fact that people are able to get these guns in the first place,” said Lucas.

The KCPD created a tip line, 816-413-3477, and anyone who witnessed the shooting, or has a video is encouraged to contact the investigators.

A day of celebration turned into distress during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade on Wednesday afternoon.

As the event came to a close, parade goers heard gunfire on the west side of Union Station. At the time of writing, the results from the event are one death and 14 injuries.

Two people have been brought into custody according to The Kansas City Star.

“Honestly just feeling numb and angry that something like this happened,” said UMKC senior and E-Scholar who was near the chaos, Abigail Wheeler. “I hope the victims are alright and that everyone gets the resources they need to get through this scary time.”

UMKC’s Hospital Hill campus switched to remote learning in the wake of the event.

This situation is still ongoing and the story will be updated as further news is reported.

Zach Gunter, Sports Editor
I’ve been involved with Roo News for two years now, and am in my second semester of being the sports editor. I am a communications major hoping to one day either write or broadcast professionally. While sports are my life, I am also a massive weather nerd and used to want to major in meteorology.

Jazlyn Summers, Managing Editor
I have been involved in Roo News for almost two years, as I started my freshman year and am currently a sophomore. I was a staff writer/intern and am now the managing editor. I also anchor and produce at Roo TV. I plan on entering the broadcast field in the future, but I love everything about journalism. On the side, I run a photography business and advocate for queer representation in the media. In my (very limited) free time, you’ll often find me either at a dog park or doing yoga… sometimes both at the same time.
