The Kansas City Chiefs continue their sorrowful struggles as they were thoroughly defeated by the Tennessee Titans 27-3 on Sunday.
The loss puts Kansas City below .500 once again as it now sits at 3-4 and in third place of the AFC West. Mahomes finished the game with no touchdowns and two turnovers which has him tied for the most in the NFL with 11 total (nine interceptions and two fumble losses).
Tennessee and their All-Pro running back Derrick Henry came out attacking and exposing the Chiefs’ defense like teams have been all year. In their first two possessions, Tennessee put up two touchdowns, both of them on pass plays.
The Chiefs’ offense could get nothing going in the first half, producing three-and-outs left and right, and another lackluster pass from Mahomes turned into his ninth interception of the season.
Tennessee’s defense was almost flawless as it kept the Chiefs off the field, resulting in the Titans’ offense controlling the time of possession all game. The Titan’s total time of possession nearly tripled the total time the Chiefs had possession of the football.
Even if you’re not a football fan, you know this is not the recipe for winning football games.
The Titans went into halftime leading 27-0, completely shutting the Chiefs out, a first-time occurrence for this Chiefs’ offense since Mahomes has been quarterback.
The second half was not any different for Kansas City’s offense. Tennessee was not giving up anything to the wide receivers to get open and the ground game was nonexistent. The only points given up by the Titans’ defense were from a 42-yard field goal by Harrison Butker on the opening third-quarter drive for the Chiefs.
From here, no points were scored and it looked like the Chiefs had given up.
Mahomes was eventually pulled in the fourth quarter after taking a big hit and Chad Henne came in to replace him.
We are approaching the halfway point of the season and the Chiefs still have an abundance of kinks to work out if they want to make any sort of playoff run, that is, if they can even put themselves in a position to make the playoffs.
