As of the time of writing, UMKC’s coronavirus communications webpage has reported four new positive cases in the first week of classes, for a total of 14 cases in the month of August.
The number of positive cases at UMKC falls below those of both Mizzou and Missouri S&T since classes began for the UM system schools on Aug. 24. As of the time of writing, Mizzou’s website had listed 306 active student cases, and Missouri S&T had reported 26 student cases in their opening week. The number of positive cases at the University of Missouri – St. Louis could not be found.
Across the street, Rockhurst University reported 14 active positive cases among students and two among employees on their Troost campus, as of Aug. 25.
“It is important to note that the number of student cases on the Troost campus includes only one student in isolation on campus. The remainder of cases are students who live off campus,” said an Aug. 28 release on Rockhurst’s website. “The number does not include students who are in quarantine, only active positive cases.”
The most recent case at UMKC occurred Aug. 28 and involved a campus visitor who had been in the School of Dentistry on Aug. 25 and 26.
Each reported case on UMKC’s coronavirus communications page links to a release with further details. All releases state the times and locations of infected individuals’ presence on campus, but keep their identifying information private.
“Any individuals who potentially may have been exposed are being contacted,” states each release.
