Disney lovers, cancel your Netflix and Hulu subscription because everyone’s favorite franchise has officially launched their own streaming platform.
On November 12th, Disney+ brought everyone back to their childhood by releasing all of their content onto one, easy-to-use web service.
From classic Disney Channel shows, to Star Wars, the world of Marvel, Pixar, National Geographic and everyone’s favorite Disney classics, you can watch just about anything on Disney+.
They offer a few different options when it comes to subscriptions. You can pay $6.99 a month (similar to a subscription for Netflix or Hulu), or you can pay for a Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN package for $12.99 a month if you’re interested in bundling the subscriptions.
Student and former Disney World employee Noah Kucza has been waiting a long time for his favorite franchise to release something like this.
“Disney really seized an opportunity in releasing their streaming service,” Kucza Said.
“They own a notable portion of the entertainment market, especially after their acquisition of Fox.”
This streaming service is aiding in so many people in ‘cutting the cable’ by providing an all in one entertainment site.
Something else admirable about what Disney is doing with their platform is making it family friendly. Parents can trust that their children can watch just about anything on Disney+.
Although this service can be beneficial for parents with young children, many adults are feeling particularly nostalgic as they are able to watch so many shows that shaped their childhood.
However, others are fed up with the money-grabbing that large corporations like Disney are famous for.
“Disney+ only seems like a good deal if you ignore the fact that it’s a mega corporation trying to have a monopoly on what, where, and when you can watch anything,” says film student Odi Opole. “I’m going back to buying physical copies of things so I can avoid having my watch library decided by what’s profitable to a white man from corporate.” Says Opole
The fact that shows such as Hannah Montana, Lizzie McGuire, Wizards of Waverly Place, Good Luck Charlie and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody are available on Disney+ makes a strong case for college students to purchase this service.
If you are a Disney lover like me and are looking for a way to relax over the upcoming holiday breaks, I would highly recommend Disney+. You will be amazed at all that it has to offer, and sentimental about the things you forgot about, but can’t wait to see again.
