The Kansas City men’s soccer team hosted a match against Mercer University on Friday, Sept. 13. The 3-2-1 Roos faced a Mercer team sporting a similar record of 3-1-2.
The game started at 7:30 p.m. with the Bears coming out strong, scoring in the first 30 seconds.
The Roos trailed for nearly 25 minutes before their first score of the night. Junior forward Luke Hoelting tied the game 1-1
The Roos would get the second half’s first goal with junior forward Elie Kisoka taking the lead 2-1.
Mercer answered less than a minute later, tying the game 2-2.
The game also saw five yellow cards handed out within the same 20-minute period.
The first was given to Kansas City’s Julien Le Bourdoulous. The next came two minutes after, both to Mercer. The Roos would receive the final two yellow cards.
The match remained tied for 30 minutes. Mercer found the back of the net with eight minutes left, taking a lead of 3-2.
The game appeared lost for the Roos heading into the final moments of play when sophomore defender Brevyn Cole powered the ball past the keeper with under two minutes left.
The match ended in a 3-3 draw.
After the match, Roos players gave out posters and autographs to the fans in attendance.
The next home match for men’s soccer will be on Sept. 24 against the Tulsa Hurricanes.
