UMKC Roo News went home carrying seven awards at this year’s Missouri College Media Association (MCMA) banquet in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO).

Going up against the largest campuses in Missouri, and with mostly a new staff this year, the newspaper continues to show a strong website design, winning second. Roo News has placed first or second in website design for the last four years.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the staff… Especially given the fact that the leadership of the paper last fall was brand new to the job,” said Steve Kraske, chairman of Roo News’ Board of Publishers. “I especially want to highlight Julia Kapros, who pulled in a series of awards for her photography. That is a much-deserved honor.”

Part of the newspaper staff traveled to SEMO over the weekend to attend workshops and learn how to better serve the UMKC community.

“The staff is focused on doing even better next year, and I have every confidence they will succeed,” Kraske said.

  • Second Place, Website, Roo News Staff
