While it’s difficult to decide where the line is drawn, the most important thing is that they feel fulfilled in their work.
“Nepo Babies” refers to nepotism, the practice of people in power showing favor to associates, friends, and family.
Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith had Willow and Jaden Smith, who both turned to making music, following passion projects of their own.
Being a part of a family that has roots in music and acting, it only makes sense that those resources were outstretched to children, and that can’t be held against them.
“Whip My Hair” was a cultural moment, and if Willow wasn’t given the resources to create we’d miss the artist they’ve turned into today.
On the opposite side of that coin, consider the Kardashian-Jenner clan. They’ve practically taken over social media and have control over trendsetting which wasn’t a big deal when 5 sisters started their hand in marketing to the masses for fame.
Yet, these women have started having children, with access to so many more opportunities, like North West playing Simba in the Hollywood Bowl’s half-time showing of The Lion King.
There is a chance that these children are taking opportunities away from others who have to work twice as hard to get seen.
Which circles back to the question, why should Nepo Babies be shown this favor? The public has come up with their own response to rampant nepotism.
Social media has given anybody the chance to see fame, whether it be 15 minutes like Charli D’Amelio on TikTok, or a young Taylen Biggs interviewing A-listers at age 11.
While the world of mainstream media is filled with recognizable faces, social media lends itself to talents across the globe that use algorithms to their advantage in showing themselves off.
At the end of the day, you are the only person standing in the way of your success. Letting nepo babies get you down is only another distraction in this fast-paced world.
