The Kansas City Roos men’s basketball team finally got a win under its belt after going on an eight game losing streak. The team beat the North Dakota Fighting Hawks 80-69.
Even though Kansas City got less rebounds, the team displayed great efficiency on offense, as the group shot over 50% from the field, and over 45% from three.
Head coach Marvin Menzies expressed his gratitude for finally getting over the eight game slump.
“I’m just really happy for the guys to experience winning again,” said Menzies. “It felt like we were on a fishing boat in a never-ending storm, and then finally the sun came up.”
Kansas City was once again led by senior guard Jamar Brown. He finished with 29 points and shot an astonishing 75% from the three point line.
“I’ve just been maintaining the course and trusting my teammates,” said Brown. “They believe in me, and I believe in them.”
Due to Brown’s dominant play against North Dakota State and North Dakota, he was awarded with his second Summit League Peak Performer of the Week. He averaged over 27 points and eight rebounds in that stretch.
Senior guard Cameron Faas had a career night in the win against North Dakota. He scored 22 points and shot 50% from behind the arc.
“I just let the game come to me tonight,” said Faas. “It seemed to get me into the flow.”
Junior forward Josh Ijeh also had an impactful game. Ijeh finished with 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds for the team.
“He gave us some really good minutes tonight,” said Menzies. “He gives us everything he’s got, and there’s nothing more I can ask from him.”
With Kansas City finally adding another win in their column, Coach Menzies is looking forward to developing the team in practice, so they can be ready for the next game.
“Our mentality has always been the next practice,” said Menzies. “What we do in practice will determine what we do in the next game.”
The Roos only have two home games left before the Summit League tournament. Kansas City takes on Omaha on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. then Denver on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.
