The Kansas City Roos men’s basketball team lost their eighth consecutive game on Thursday night against the North Dakota State Bison. It was a back and forth game, but the Roos ended up losing 72-78.
The Roos felt the defensive presence from the Bison all game, especially from the three point line. The team was held to just 29% from behind the arc.
North Dakota State senior forward Jacksen Moni really made it tough for the Roos on defense. Moni finished with 24 points, shooting 50% from three.
Kansas City has also been going through a lot of starting five lineup changes. Even though injuries have played a factor, head coach Marvin Menzies is still seeking to find the true identity of the team.
“I don’t know if I have ever had this many lineup changes,” said Menzies. “I’m still trying to find the best combination of guys while the game is going on.”
Senior guard Jamar Brown really kept Kansas City afloat throughout the game. Brown finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds. He also had it going from behind the arc with four three-pointers.
Senior forward Melvyn Ebonkoli also had a good game. Ebonkoli finished with six rebounds and a career high 18 points. Coach Menzies expressed just how important Melvyn was to the team after the game.
“I was happy to see that because he has to play well,” said coach Menzies. “In order for us to be in the hunt, he has to play well, and he did that tonight.”
Graduate and junior guards Babacar Diallo and Davontae Hall had good games as well. They both finished with 11 points.
In the final seconds, Kansas City cut the lead to only four points. However, the Roos could not overcome the Bison.
