The Roos score one final goal of the season as the team says goodbye to eight of their seniors and graduate students. Family and friends all gathered to see these women off into the next chapters of their lives.
During the first half of the game, the Roos were mostly on the defensive, they defended well and senior goalkeeper Riley Moore was able to come up with some important saves. Moore had four saves by the end of the game and ended her career with 124 total saves, fifth in all-time program history.
Durwood stadium was packed with not only people, but dogs as well. It was pup night at the stadium and the atmosphere was electric.
Only a few minutes into the second half Omaha was able to get on the board first with a goal from a crowded corner kick. This set the Roos off and it wasn’t long before senior forward Megan White was able to tie the game up.
It was a heartwarming moment for the team as they all embraced and celebrated their teammate scoring her last goal as a Roo. White had one other goal during her freshman season and was able to close out her college soccer career with one more goal.
Omaha answered back not long after and made the score 2-1. The Roos were hungry for another goal and took a few more shots as the clock winded down. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to tie up the game and ended the season with a loss.
After the game concluded, it was time to recognize the senior players who finished up their season. There were tears and lots of hugging as many of the girls’ times spent suited up at Durwood came to an end.
One by one the seniors walked down the field escorted by their parents and siblings as they shook hands and embraced the coaching staff. After initially starting out hot, tying the all-time best record of 5-0-3.
However, the Roos lost steam as the season went on and finished with a record of 7-8-3.
