Made Mobb hosted a pop-up event at their storefront, featuring food trucks, student and alumni vendors and the launch of their new collaborative line.
Made Mobb is a Kansas City-based streetwear brand founded in 2013 by UMKC alumni, that celebrates Midwest pride and local culture through bold, contemporary designs.
Attendees could browse the new collection, get a permanent bracelet and mingle with each other to the DJ’s upbeat set.
Made Mobb founder Vu Radley hopes that events like these will lead to more future UMKC student involvement.
“As we grow, we want to give opportunities to anyone who’s local first, because we’re keeping that dollar in our community,” said Radley.
UMKC alum Mariah Markt set up a table with her graphic design prints, representing UMKC’s Department of Media, Art, and Design along with Radley.
The student Comedy Club at UMKC also tabled at the event, making them the only student organization to do so.
“We really belonged there,” said Teresa Sheffield, Comedy Club president. “The Roos Mobb pop-up is one of the coolest events that happens in the fall, and our club is so much fun to be a part of, it just felt like it would be a perfect fit – and it was.”
In the past, Made Mobb has garnered collaborations with prominent partners like the Chiefs, KC Current and QuikTrip.
Lisa Folscroft, president of the Alumni Governing Board, expresses the importance of events like this.
“We want to show pride and that people are successful graduates from UMKC. It’s just a good representation for incoming students and for students to be proud,” said Folscroft.
This year’s collaboration captures an old-school streetwear style with shirts, hats, jackets, and more. Some pieces include an old-fashioned Roo, “Roos Mobb” graphics and plenty of Kansas City pride.
“The visuals and vibes were phenomenal, their UMKC clothing line is absolute fire, the local food and drink vendors were fantastic, the music was great,” said Sheffield. “It was like a huge block party.”
