The Kansas City Roos faced off against the North Dakota State Bison on Sept. 29. It was a back-and-forth game, with lots of battling in the midfield.
After a scoreless first half, the Bison found the back of the net with a decisive goal.
Goalkeeper Maddie Sibbing was able to come up with five saves and keep it a one-score game, but the offense could not answer with a goal of their own. This was Sibbing’s third consecutive game of three saves or more.
The Roos picked up the intensity in the final 15 minutes, looking slightly more dangerous but the Bison defense held firm.
While the Roos took seven shots, only one was on target.
“I think right now we’re in a little bit of a lull,” head coach Jess Smith said in the post-game interview. “We’re reacting to what’s going on and we’re not dictating our movement off the ball.”
Smith claims that the team is going to take what they’ve learned from these two consecutive losses and work on maintaining aggression and momentum going forward.
With their record now being 6-3-3 the fight is on to turn things around. However, this is Kansas City’s 11th game only allowing one goal from their opponents.
Only six games remain in the regular season for the Roos before the Summit League Championship Tournament. Kansas City has just over three weeks to catch up with the pack.
“We’ll be ready for a tough week on the road, ” said Smith.
