The UMKC dining hall and Student Union are under construction, but there are many delicious and affordable places nearby campus. Here are some places new Roos should check out.
If you’re looking for something cheap, and quick then check out the Rockhill area. Down Troost Avenue and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard are known chains like McDonald’s, Taco Bell, KFC, and Subway.
If you’re looking to eat something more high quality or want to splurge a little more, head to KC’s famous Gates BBQ. The area is around a 14 minute walk or a 5 minute bike ride.
If that’s not for you and you’re looking for something a little closer, on the corner of 51st Street, there’s Go Chicken Go. The restaurant has tasty, affordable chicken and sides to-go. It’s a 5 to 10 minute walk from campus.
If you head a little further down Troost Avenue, there’s a recently built Tiki Taco, only a 15 minute walk from campus. They sell various types of Mexican cuisine at an affordable price.
If you want some Mexican food but don’t want to try anything new, head to Chipotle. Located on Main Street, there is a Chipotle that’s a 20 minute walk and is open till 11 p.m.
My personal favorite around campus is Pizza 51, located on Oak Street right down the street from the Student Union. This amazing pizzeria sells various Italian cuisines other than pizza, like calzones and sandwiches. The restaurant is a less than 10 minute walk and their price range is around $10 to $20 and is open every day until 9 p.m.
Next door at 314 East St. Is an amazing Chinese restaurant named Kin Lin, with a price range of $10 to $20. This Chinese eatery serves up seafood, fish, and other traditional Chinese entrees and is available for both takeout and dine-in.
If you want to eat something really good, spend a little bit more, and are up for a long walk, you should check out the Plaza Westport area.
Down in the beautiful plaza area, various restaurants serve amazing dishes. The plaza has restaurants like Hokibar, Jack Stack, The Cheesecake Factory, P.F Changs, Shake Shack and Buca di Beppo.
