Get connected and find a place on campus this semester through the variety of clubs and organizations UMKC has to offer.
With over 300 campus organizations at UMKC, any student has the opportunity to become a part of a community that’s right for them.
“We make sure everybody feels as welcomed as possible in all walks of life,” Sam Justice, president of UMKC’s SAGA (Sexuality & Gender Alliance) Council said. “Our main objective is to oversee the other five LGBTQIA+ student organizations on campus.”
Additionally, SAGA is hosting two upcoming drag events: a student drag showcase on September 24 from 6-8 p.m., and a drag show on October 29 from 6-8:30 p.m. The American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), a national organization, supports gender equity and more opportunities for women in medicine. Onyi Oligbo has been a part of this organization since her first year and is now the president of AMWA.
“This is one of the best organizations I’ve ever been a part of,” Oligbo said. “It’s just an atmosphere of positivity.”
Oligbo added that AMWA is not just for women at UMKC, but all genders are welcome. Additionally, Teresa Sheffield, founder of UMKC’s Comedy Club created this organization to educate students on the art of comedy.
“We want to turn Kansas City into a national hub for comedy,” Sheffield said. “Give it a chance – if you’re thinking, ‘I’ve never done this,’ even the best comedians in the world started where you are.”
