Kansas City’s two top scorers, RayQuawndis Mitchell and Shemarri Allen, will both be in new uniforms next season.

  Mitchell announced his entry into the NBA draft earlier this spring while maintaining his eligibility to come back for another season. After withdrawing his name from the draft and entering the transfer portal, Mitchell narrowed the top four to Arkansas, Oklahoma State, BYU and Penn State.

  On May 10, Mitchell went on social media to announce he was committing to Penn State for his final season of college basketball. The Nittany Lions get a veteran who, as the primary ball-handler last year, averaged 17.3 points for Kansas City.

  Allen announced his entry into the transfer portal just a day later, and like Mitchell, he fielded big-time offers from major programs. Allen had interest from schools such as Florida and Penn State but ultimately committed to the University of Central Florida on May 11. The senior guard averaged 17 points per game last season in Kansas City.

  Allen played the past two years with the program, while Mitchell transferred to UMKC in 2022. Both players were expected to play a role in first-year coach Marvin Menzies’ system. Still, after senior guard Anderson Kopp suffered a season-ending injury after only playing four games, the two saw their roles expand.

  The deadline to enter the transfer portal has now passed, but any player already in the portal is permitted to extend their recruitment if they please.
