The Kansas City women’s basketball team took on North Dakota last Thursday and rallied for a 71-61 home win.

Brooklyn McDavid led the way in a spectacular 29-point performance, her seventh time this season topping 20 points

“Tonight we needed her to do that, and she did,” said head coach Jacie Hoyt. “It was fun to watch, it was fun to be a part of. It’s been fun watching her progression, I’m just proud of her.”

The Roos got out to a nice 17-12 lead after the first quarter, but the game turned in the second quarter with North Dakota holding Kansas City to just nine total points. With their lockdown defense, the Fighting Hawks managed to claim a 32-26 lead heading into the locker room.

After falling behind by as many as 12 in the third quarter, McDavid began her second-half takeover, scoring 14 of the Roos’ 16 points in the quarter. However, North Dakota still went into the final period with a 48-42 advantage.

In the fourth quarter, Kansas City finally found a way to put up a clutch 19-2 run to give them a 63-55 lead. With a little over two minutes to play, Naomie Anlantas kicked it to Dani Winslow who would drill a dagger three to put the game away.

One of the key factors in the comeback win was the play from inside the paint. The Roos outscored the Fighting Hawks by a whopping 36-16 in that area.

The Roos shot an absurd 10-15 from the field and 4-6 from three-point land in the final quarter after shooting 1-13 from beyond the arc in the first three-quarters of play.

The team improved to 21-5 this season and 11-4 in conference play, as they are yet to lose in the month of February with three games to go.
