The after-dinner, sweet-tooth grab Betty Rae’s, opened its second location in the historic River Market area.
The new location is on the corner of 5th and Delaware at 412 Delaware St., surrounded by diverse restaurants and right on the line for the cog rail.
There are 24 house-made flavors which can be taste tested to the heart’s content.
Exotic and passion-driven flavors created by the owners, such as Lavender Honey and Buttermilk Peach Habanero are joined on the menu by other bizarre, but tasty combinations.
There are also simple yet decadent flavors of chocolate and vanilla bean for those looking to play it safe with their selection.
The ice cream parlor also offers floats, ice cream sandwiches, cones, shakes, malts and more.
The original Betty Rae’s in Waldo, also offers a variety of boozy drinks after 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and all weekend.
The River Markets location states the boozy drinks are “Coming Real Soon” to its location.
Betty Rae’s is named after one of the owner’s grandmothers, who had a passion for feeding everyone.
The amount of people that David, her grandson and his wife, Mary, serve would surely make Betty Rae gleam with joy.
At times, there will be a line outside the door and around the corner.
For those who feel that ice cream is not just an “after-dinner-finisher” Betty Rae’s is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the River Market location. The Waldo store closes an hour earlier.
“Her spirit of invention, of preparing great food for good friends and of making room for fun will live on in Betty Rae’s Ice Cream,” reads the parlor’s website.
