Team’s win streak hits seven before 6-0 loss to Mizzou

A 6-0 loss to 13th ranked Missouri on Sunday night snapped the Roos’ winning streak at seven games. The defeat came after three straight wins in the 2012 Missouri Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament at 3&2 Field in Kansas City.

Since returning from Hawaii, the Roos, 9-5, have been on a roll. After victories Friday and Saturday, the Roos on Sunday defeated Southeast Missouri 5-2 before a loss to Missouri.

UMKC 7 – Missouri State 0

In Saturday night’s game against the Missouri State Bears (8-4), the Roos dominated from start to finish.

Seniors Kaelene Curry and Kelly Fischer each went 2-for-4, and Curry scored twice. Senior Megan Ussary went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Marlee Maples went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

The Roos wasted no time scoring as leadoff hits by Curry and Fischer were followed by Ussary’s run-scoring single to centerfield for a 1-0 lead In the third inning, the Roos scored three runs. An error by the pitcher allowed Ussary to score, as the Roos gained a 4-0 lead.

In the fifth, junior Tara Wolf scored off another error with the bases loaded to put the Roos up 6-0.

Curry scored the Roos’ final run on Ussary’s double in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Junior Pitcher Deanna Friese recorded her fifth complete game of the year, giving up six hits and striking out six Bears.

UMKC 7 – Saint Louis 1

On Friday evening, the Roos defeated Saint Louis in the opening game of the tournament.

Junior Emily Ott led the Roos with three hits and one run, and Curry recorded two hits and two runs.

Despite falling behind1-0 in the first inning, the Roos recovered and out-hit the Billikens 11-6.

The Blue & Gold will face Summit League opponent South Dakota State on March 10-11at 3&2 Field.
