The men’s soccer team claimed its first two regular reason victories last week, bringing its record to 2-4

Last Tuesday, the Roos downed Mid-America Nazarene 1-0 at Durwood Soccer Stadium.

A slow start in the first half left both teams 0-0, with a shot count of 5-apiece. However, the second half proved a different story for the Roos, who looked comfortable defensively and started to wear down the MNU defense.

The Roos struck in the 56th minute when versatile junior forward David Sarabia netted his sixth career game-winning goal on a play assisted by freshman Konner Knoll.

The game also saw sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Martin make 4 saves in his first career win and shutout. The Roos’ 16 shots on the goal was also a season best.

The success was repeated Saturday, when the Roos beat Central Arkansas 2-1 at Conway, Ark.

Again, the Roos started off slow in a scoreless first half.

In the 53rd minute, the Bears took a 1-0 lead with a strike by Daylon Schiffel as he blasted a strike past Martin.

The Roos tied the game with a low-angle shot by senior forward Jimmy Simon in the 61st minute.

Senior midfielder Chris Markey hit the game winner in the 81st minute with a free kick from just outside the box.
