Nestled in the heart of the Country Club Plaza, Messenger Coffee Company may be small in size, but it brews up a big impression.
Located just a short drive from campus, Messenger Coffee is a convenient spot for students looking to grab a quick latte or settle in for a study session.
Known for its locally roasted artisan coffee and commitment to fair sourcing, Messenger offers more than just your typical cup – it delivers a coffee experience.
Walking in, you’re welcomed by chalkboard menus and a cozy interior accented with lush greenery and subtle, stylish decor. A Pride flag waves proudly near the entrance, signaling a space that’s not just community-oriented, but inclusive.
The atmosphere is relaxed but intentional, with every detail. From the handwritten coffee specials to the curated merchandise, adding to the shop’s charm.
I opted for a 12oz iced vanilla latte with almond milk, which rang up somewhere between $6 and $7. While it’s not the cheapest coffee in town, it’s clear that you’re paying for more than just the coffee.
The almond milk was smooth, the espresso rich but not bitter, and the vanilla subtly sweet, making it satisfying with every sip.
Although Messenger is known for its coffee, the menu has options for all. Senior history major Jay Cravens says that he will be frequenting Messenger more.
“I’d recommend it,” Cravens said. “I don’t even like coffee all that much but it’s still a really good drink. Caffeine always helps too, getting close to finals now so I definitely need it.”
From teas to pastries, it’s easy to find something for any mood or preference.
Joss Quick, a freshman nursing major, spoke highly of the shop’s ambiance. “I really do like Messenger,” she said. “I love their outdoor seating especially when it’s nice outside, you really get to appreciate the area and the city we’re in.”
And she’s right—when the weather’s good, the outdoor tables become a perfect spot for people-watching or catching up with a friend.
Whether you’re a die-hard coffee lover, a tea drinker, or just someone looking for a peaceful corner in the city, Messenger delivers an experience that’s worth sipping slowly.
