As students get ready for spring break, music creates the soundtrack to their adventures—no matter how they may be spending it. These are the songs that will set their tone for a week of fun, relaxation, and memory-making.
El Noa Noa – Juan Gabriel
Juan Gabriel’s “El Noa Noa” has an infectious, bright energy that’s perfect for getting everyone in a celebratory mood.
Junior communication student Emmanuel Fabian said this song will highlight his spring break.
“It’s just a really fun song to listen to, and once you listen, you’ll see how uplifting it is,” he said. “For me, I associate the song with Mexico, and I’m excited to be going back there over spring break.”
The vibrant, Latin instrumentation in this song makes it impossible not to dance to, so it’s perfect for outings with your friends or cruising around with the windows down.
Worth It – RAYE, The Heritage Orchestra
As defined by RAYE as the show of her entire career, “Worth It” features in her live symphony concert at the Royal Albert Hall.
“This is my favorite song right now, but it has to be the live version with the orchestra,” said junior communication major Shelyse Fields. “There’s a timeless and classy feel to it. It makes me feel upbeat when I listen to it, and that’s the energy I’m taking into spring break.”
The lyrics embrace knowing your worth and practicing self-love – perfect for healing over spring break. Combined with a sensual and empowering tone, this song has a vibe that could make you feel good about yourself and appreciate the good times around you.
The Largest – BigXthaPlug
Nursing student Danielle Broxton said over her spring break, she’d probably be listening to anything on TikTok, but her favorite artist right now is BigXthaPlug.
“I like him because although he does rap, he mixes it up too. He doesn’t only rap just about the bad stuff,” she said.
She recommended the song “The Largest,” which is the lead single from his second studio album Take Care. If you’re looking for a bass-heavy party song, this song has the perfect confident vibe for a good time.
Legendary – Jorge Rivera-Herrans
As part of a long-form journey in “Epic: The Musical,” Jorge Rivera-Herrans takes listeners on a journey through Homer’s “The Odyssey.” ‘Legendary’ opens up the seventh album with the son of Odysseus and Penelope, Telemachus, dreaming for an exciting life.
“Telemachus wants to go on big, grand adventures and have fun while doing it,” said junior chemistry major Harley Lankard. “To me, that’s what spring break is all about.”
The lyrics encourage listeners to imagine themselves fighting off sirens and hydras, being able to take on anything the world may throw at them. Featuring a combination of modern beats with ancient strings, the track is perfect for inspiring your next grand adventure.
Blaze of Glory – Bon Jovi
Spring break isn’t perfect for everyone, and senior psychology major Connor Athearn feels no different. He described Bon Jovi’s 1990 track ‘Blaze of Glory’ as an anthem to keep up his slipping grades.
“It’s the last semester before I graduate, so I’d like to end it on a good note instead of crashing and burning,” said Athearn.
The song’s lyrics and marching drum beat in the bridge encourages students to do their best and never give up, even towards the end of the semester. As Jovi says, “staring down the bullet, let me make my final stand.”
