The Kansas City Roos men’s basketball team fought hard in a close game against the St. Thomas Tommies on Saturday night, but lost 65-68 .
The Roos struggled in the first half, especially on offense, but turned it on in the second half of the game. The team’s energy made a complete shift and it was able to get back in the game.
“ The guys realized that it was just a game,” said head coach Marvin Menzies. “They just let the jitters go and they settled.”
Even though Kansas City made a comeback in the second half, a clutch three pointer from St. Thomas graduate guard Drake Dobbs, with about 16 seconds left, helped the Tommies seal the win.
Graduate guard Babacar Diallo did a great job of keeping the Roos in the game. He finished with 21 points and shot 6 for 11 from the field.
“Babacar was great,” said Menzies. “The defenders were sagging off of him, and he made them pay.”
Senior guard Cameron Faas was also a contributing factor in Kansas City staying afloat scoring 14 points throughout the game. Even though the Roos are now on a five game losing streak, Coach Menzies is still excited about the team’s season moving forward.
“We’re headed in the right direction,” said Menzies. “We just have to get our confidence where it needs to be.”
