The Office of Student Involvement (OSI) hosted another successful late-night Union Takeover last Friday to celebrate Halloween.
Students could participate in a costume contest, tarot card readings or attempt to solve an escape room.
Marlon Perez-Morales, a sophomore business administration major, expressed disappointment with the escape room.
“I give a six out of ten. It’s more of [a] murder mystery,” said Perez-Morales.
Freshman environmental studies major Callum Grayson would win best overall in the costume contest dressed as Puss in Boots.
“This is my first Union Takeover and I’ve had a lot of fun.” said Grayson. “I just wish they had louder music next time.”
Some other costumes included: a cardboard knight, an astronaut and a bumblebee
Students could also choose from three mocktails: The Haunted Roo, a Bloody Sunrise and a Spooky Shirley Temple. The Spooky Shirley Temple included small candy eyeballs to add to the scary ambiance.
Many organizations also took the opportunity to reach out to students at the Table and Treat section.
The Women’s Center, Roo Counseling and First Gen Roos were some of the groups that provided bowls of candy for students and provided details on their organizations.
The Gardening Club also provided students with tiny succulents to take care of.
According to Alisha Langham, OSI’s events and outreach coordinator, the Union Takeover has become more successful than in previous semesters. OSI plans on hosting two more takeovers next semester. The first event, “Glow-night,” will be on Feb. 7, and the second is unannounced and will be in April.
