The Men of Color (MOC) organization, with over 300 members, has quickly become a standout group on campus, promoting brotherhood and inclusivity while earning recognition like the SOUL award.
“I’m glad it doesn’t go unnoticed because a lot of us put in so much work outside of school and at home. Whether it’s coming up with events or budget, us men come together and work hard to leave a legacy behind”, said Joel Campos, senior and vice president of the organization.
Last year, the MOC had won the Organization of the Year award. In the spring semester of 2024, the group won the SOUL award, or the Student Organization of The Year.
“From when I first joined, it was predominantly black and I feel like when people hear Men of Color, they only think of one race,” Campos said. “But, me being Latino in this organization shows that we’re not limited, and we can all come together as men.”
Teyler Partee, a general member of MOC said making connections is one of the biggest parts of being in this organization.
“During our events we always make time to go talk to others that are there, we try to interact with everyone and show who we are,” said Jovan Crittendon, an executive board member
The Men of Color want to show that their organization is filled with laughter, brotherhood and building bonds to help uplift one another as men.
Members said they are proud of their success and how far they have come.
“The sky’s the limit we can accomplish so much more outside of the University itself by making an impact on the community letting them know that we are a welcoming environment and that we’re here for all people and all races,” said Campos.
