With the 2024 soccer season in full swing, Kansas City Athletics will host KC Current Night on Thursday, August 29. Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams will be playing.
The women’s team will kick it off first against Southern Illinois at 5 p.m. The men will take on the University of California, Santa Barbara at 8 p.m.
The Teal Mobile will be present, selling KC Current merchandise. KC Current players and staff will be signing autographs. Both the Teal Mobile and the autograph signing will be at the entrance of Durwood Stadium from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
UMKC announced the partnership with the KC Current in December.
The women’s team is currently undefeated with two wins and two draws. The men’s team remains undefeated with one win and draw.
While the rosters have changed from last season, there are a few key returners that fans can look out for on both teams.
For the women’s side, redshirt sophomore Brianna Castleberry is a star. In 2023, she led the team in both goals (6) and assists (3). In the first four games in 2024, she has already recorded an assist.
Freshman forward Adriana Benassi is one to look out for. In the win against Emporia State on Aug. 22, she scored both goals. Bennasi leads the team in goals scored.
On the men’s side, Julien Le Bourdoulous, senior midfielder, looks to continue his 2023 success after tying for the team lead in goals (3) and taking the team crown in assists (6).
So far this season, junior forward Elie Kisoka has shown out. In two games, Kisoka has two goals and an assist.
UMKC students are able to enter for free with their student ID. For all fall sports, children under 12 enter for free and adult tickets are only $5.
