The energy was electric in the Swinney Recreation Center for the home opener as the Roos took on the 19th seed in a rallying match that led to a 3-1 victory over the Roo’s. 

  Even though the Roos fell short this match, they are the second team to win a set against the Jayhawks. 

  “They played with true grit and played point for point and obviously when we’re in system, we are hard to defend” Posey said as she reflected on the grueling match of the two lineups. 

  The Roos stepped up to the plate and battled with the Jayhawks while showing what Kansas City’s talent really has to offer. 

  At the net, Odyssey Warren showed out in the first set and led her team with nine kills on the night, and right behind her was outside hitter Raina Smith with a total of eight kills. Warren also put up 11 digs out of the team’s total of 51. 

  Ultimately, the sell-out game was a good start to the Roo’s home opening season and helped the overall energy for the Kansas City Roos.

  “It is so rewarding for our players to have that many people come, partly because Kansas was here, but I would like to believe that part of it was because we were playing Kansas and that they wanted to see our players’ home opener. Anytime we can have that kind of crowd get behind us that really fueled our kids,” Coach Posey said.

 The loss to KU was tough, but the Roos are focusing on defeating the Northern Illinois Huskies in this Friday night’s game right here in Swinney. 

  The Roos are hoping to improve ball handling and overall be smarter defensively and offensively as a whole. 

  As Warren reflects on tonight’s game, the aftermath of this loss is not going to stop her from continuing to keep the good energy going into the next match. 

  “My key motivation was to win this game for coach Posey, but at the end of the day, there is so much more volleyball left to play. It’s important to be in the moment and to also keep in mind that it’s not the end of the world.”
