What’s Up, Joeli? Nov. 8-14

Here is your curated itinerary for the week. You’re welcome. (Daniel Thomas)

What scares you a little? Is it staring at the ground from the window of a 60-story building? Is it choking out a speech to the graduating class? What about a guest’s first taste of your home-cooked meal? We all have something that makes our knees turn to jello just thinking about it.

This week is about trying something totally different, something that makes your heartbeat a half step quicker. Will it be improv comedy, aerial silks or becoming a master mocktail mixologist? It’s up to you. But I challenge you to step right up to the boundary of your comfort zone and see what awaits on the other side.

Monday movie night: “Spencer”

The last time I saw Kristen Stewart, she was caught between a wolf and a blood drinker. This dramatic, mature role of Princess Diana, featuring short blonde hair and elegant pearl earrings, has piqued my interest. The movie takes place over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day in 1991. We will watch an imagined version of the events that took place over the course of those three fateful days, including affairs, familial relations and self-discovery.

Silks are not exclusive to circus performers, they’re also for those looking to get fit. This is an opportunity to get in a workout and try something new.

Poetry workshop with Carlos Andrés Gómez

Poetry is like a window into the soul through written and spoken words. Personally, I have been intimidated by the word counts and sentence structures, but that is all about to change. Carlos Andrés Gómez is visiting campus to teach a lesson on this romantic act of self-expression and make this art form more accessible.
