A penalty kick – in the gut

The men’s soccer team took a devastating blow in the penalty kick round of the semi-finals last Friday. After drawing the game to a 0-0 close and two overtime periods, the number-one seeded Roos lost 7-6 in penalty kicks against the fourth seeded Oral Roberts.

“When you’re heading into a shootout it’s really just by chance,” said Head Coach Rick Benben.

He explained that when a game isn’t won in regulation then no matter which the stronger team is, it comes down to a single player and the opposing goalie.

Benben is still pleased with how strong the team played throughout the season.

“We’ve got good kids, we played well every game this year,” Benben said. “Sure we’re disappointed but we’re not going to forget about what we accomplished.”
