UMKC softball crushed Seattle last week 3 – 2, 9 – 1 respectively in a double header at home, leaving the Roos 2nd overall in WAC regular season play.

Saturday’s game against Seattle was postponed due to inclement weather.

Junior Brooke Parker stole a base in the bottom of the first inning, marking her 25th of the season. Thanks to Bri Wyatt’s single and a double steal, the Roos gained an early 1 – 0 lead.

Senior Cinda Ramos led the fourth inning with a double, followed by Marlee Maples’ ninth home run of the season. Ramos also accomplished her first save of the season after entering the seventh inning as UMKC’s relief pitcher.

In game two, UMKC shut Seattle down with a nine-run rally in the fourth and fifth innings.

Junior Kendra Leach accomplished her first RBI single of the season. After base hits by Ramos, Junior Katie Kelley and Maples, Caitlin Christopher hit a three run homer to secure the Roos’ lead.

Kelley pitched for five innings, managing three strikeouts and allowing Seattle only one earned run.

The Roos will return to action on Friday, April 24 to face Utah Valley on the road.
