The UMKC men’s soccer team earned its fourth consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon after defeating Air Force University 3-1 on Senior Day at Durwood Stadium. Goals were scored by Nick Cramer, Guerrero Pino and Broc Cramer.

Head Coach Rick Benben’s team seems to have found a winning formula after recording a five-game winless streak in the middle of the regular season. However, UMKC’s wins against first place UNLV and defending champions Seattle on the road boosted the team’s morale.

The ’Roos (now 6-8-2, 4-3-1), came out strong and dominated the Falcons throughout the match. The team found the back of the net early in the game when captain Guerrero Pino made a 70-yard run up the field in the third minute. He intercepted an Air Force pass on the defensive half of the field, dribbled it forward and finished from 15 yards out.

Moments later, senior Michael Oakley increased the lead to two in the 15th minute after UMKC was awarded a free kick. Oakley hit a low ball barely to the right of the wall beating AFA’s goalkeeper Jake Schenk.

Three minutes into the second half, UMKC scored the third goal of the game on a counter attack when Cramer regained possession of the ball behind the pitch. Cramer sent a long cross to his brother, Broc, who dribbled past a defender and burned Schenk to make it 3-0 in the 48th minute.

With less than two minutes left in the match, Air Force scored its only goal to spoil the shutout. The ’Roos’ four-game winning streak is UMKC’s longest in two years.

Next up, the Kangaroos will end the regular season on the road on Friday and Sunday to face Houston Baptist and Incarnate Word, respectively.
