Frank Lillig

Baking soda is one of those things that get little attention outside of the kitchen, but it has many uses in everyday life that make it a very special commodity. It can be used for so many things that it might as well be named the miracle powder.

• You can dd a cup of baking soda to your bath for softer skin.
• Use it as a microbial face scrub.
• Gargle a glass of water with a tablespoon of baking soda for fresh breath and a healthy mouth.

• Put a spoonful in your shoes to remove odors.
• Put a cup of it in the bottom of trash containers to remove odors.
• Keep cut flowers longer with a teaspoon of baking soda in the water.
• Make a past of soda and water and use it to clean stainless steel or chrome.
• It’s great for cleaning porcelain sinks and toilets as well as cast iron skillets.
• Use it to clean microwaves by placing a cup of water and a teaspoon of baking soda in the microwave and cook on high for 3 minutes, then simply wipe clean.
• Add a small handful to your dishwasher for pesky stuck-on food.
• Add a handful right to dirty clothes in the washer to boost detergents.
• Put it on carpet stains and let stand overnight, then vacuum.
