UMKC Volleyball bags 14th straight win

UMKC volleyball defeated the Missouri Tigers for the first time in 20 years on Oct. 13, and the team increased its winning streak to 14 consecutive wins after defeating New Mexico State and Texas-Pan American this past weekend.


The Kangaroos hold the top spot in the Western Athletic Conference with an overall record of 18-3, 6-0, and are two victories away from becoming the team with most wins in the University’s history.

UMKC beat Mizzou 3-1, and Melissa Hartsel achieved a .444 hitting percentage with nine kills and a team-high six blocks. Emma Hagedorn had nine kills and three blocks.

“This is a big win for our team, our program and the Kansas City community,” said Head Coach Christi Posey. “Our kids continue to play so hard and give our team a chance, and we couldn’t be more proud of them.”

The Roos visited the New Mexico State Aggies in Las Cruces, New Mexico for the team’s next win.

UMKC, was down 2-0, but took the third set 25-17 and the fourth 25-23, which forced a victorious fifth set.
Taryn Miller led the Roos with 14 defensive digs, and setters Kaylyn Brandt and Nicole Wemhoff finished with 26 and 23 assists, respectively.

On Saturday, UMKC swept Texas-Pan American 3-0 in Edinburg, Texas.

Kansas City dominated all three sets 25-10, 25-18 and25-16, led by Hagedorn’s nine kills, six blocks and a .438 hitting percentage. Hartsel had seven kills and six blocks.

UMKC will head to Chicago, Ill., to face Chicago State on Friday.
